Peter Novak is the acclaimed author of the 1997 groundbreaking book The Division of Consciousness, which established him as an authority on soul-duality and binary soul cultures. He spoke about the communication between the conscious and subconscious mind and how their relationship may be related to the afterlife.

He suggested that upon death, two halves of the mind could go in different directions, experiencing different things in the afterlife. He related the soul to the conscious half, and spirit to the unconscious side. Novak talked about God having both a soul and a spirit – even God has two sides of consciousness! He mentioned how a ghost could be one side of this equation, going through the motions as if it were still alive.
