Lakota Prophecies

About the show

Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota tribe of South Dakota is also known as the "19th Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe and Bundle." As a spiritual leader, he has traveled throughout the world bringing his message of peace. In 1994, he organized the "World Peace and Prayer Day" to raise awareness of the Lakota prophecies, with a call to secure sacred sites throughout the world. Looking Horse related that he became the Keeper in 1966 at age 12 when his grandmother had a dream that he would be the next keeper.

Art mentioned that a close friend had passed away just before he went on air, and asked Looking Horse about Lakota rituals surrounding death. He described the Lakota belief about the stages of life, which mirror the four stages of creation. Art mentioned Hopi prophecies about imminent major earth changes. Looking Horse said these changes would result in "people uniting spiritually, and accepting each other’s ways and cultures." He continued, "People who are not in tune with themselves, in mind, body, and spirit - they’re going to go crazy."

Although Looking Horse said this would occur soon, the sense of time in the prophecies differs from ours, so exact dates are not known. Looking Horse also commented on child rearing, saying that the seeming epidemic of violent and nihilistic young people was caused by a loss of communication, love, and compassion from parents. The last hour featured Open Lines.
