Escaped mutated research monkeys or their descendants may have led to some of the chupacabras reports on the island, he noted. Warren also commented that many in Puerto Rico are resistant to discuss spirit topics, as the Catholic tradition holds that ghosts are souls in purgatory, involving an element of disgrace.
