Parapsychology Update / Open Lines

About the show

Parapsychologist and Atlantic University faculty member Loyd Auerbach shared updates on various parapsychological and paranormal topics. He defined parapsychology as the study of psychic phenomena, including extrasensory perception (ESP), mind over matter, and the idea of consciousness surviving bodily death. According to Auerbach, we're programmed not to believe in such phenomena, as there is a prejudice against it in academia and mainstream scientists continue to ignore the evidence.

There is credible laboratory data as well as controlled studies which show the reality of ESP, psychokinesis, and the continuation of consciousness after death, he reported. "That there is something more beyond the death of the body is pretty clear to many of us in the field of parapsychology looking at the actual evidence," he said. People have verifiable experiences with apparitions, evidential mediums, and other types of phenomena, such as NDEs and OBEs, Auerbach noted.

Whatever the afterlife is living people do not have any words to describe it properly, he continued. Auerbach explained when certain people die a combination of environmental factors and a strong emotional pull allow some of the deceased to communicate with the living. He also pointed out how the concepts of hell, demons, and the devil are religious in nature and not supported by any parapsychological evidence. "Religion has... taken beliefs that people have, extended them in ways that allow the religious organizations potentially to exert some control," Auerbach suggested.

Open Lines followed in the latter half of the program. The final half-hour of the show featured a replay from 10/29/14, when Cinema Insomnia host Mr. Lobo discussed some of the best films in the horror genre.
