Naturopathic Medicine/ Open Lines

About the show

Serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves, Dr. Joanne Conaway was an aeromedical evacuation nurse and in-flight medical crew director. Now a practicing naturopath physician, Dr. Conaway left mainstream medicine, rejecting the conventional approach of treating symptoms with pharmaceuticals. In the first half, she discussed what she believes are more effective methods of restoring health, and primarily how a healthy gut and microbiome promotes normal gastrointestinal function and provides protection from infection, increased absorption, and the regulation of one's metabolism.

Working with Dr. Joel Wallach of CriticalHealthNews, she discovered that the body has a need for a variety of minerals and trace minerals, such as molybdenum, manganese, selenium, and boron. A recent report suggested that chronic fatigue syndrome could be diagnosed through biological markers of the disease in gut bacteria. "I've known for a long time that if you don't have a good healthy gut microbiome, and you have too much of the unhealthy gut bacteria...you're likely to have issues and problems that are auto immune [related]...as the majority of immune function is actually in the digestion system," she remarked.

To achieve healthy gut bacteria she suggested probiotics (she recommends starting with larger doses when first trying to turn a situation around), eating fermented foods, and eliminating problematic elements in the diet such as processed foods, carbonated beverages, and refined flours and sugars. She characterized cancer as a "failure of the immune system," and stressed the importance of the healthy gut in order to keep the immune system in good working order.

Midweek Open Lines were featured in the latter half. Among the callers were Marcus from the Netherlands, who shared his reaction to Britain's exit from the EU, and suggested that certain people will get rich from this decision. Calling from Portland, Oregon, Jake shared the positive sentiment that "everything comes from one source" and that fear arises from the absence of faith. Patrick from Ohio, long estranged from his son, requested to be put on the Prayer List to end this separation. Aaron in New Orleans detailed how he was politically persecuted for writing protest letters that were deemed "criminal defamation."
